SMS Reminders

ScholarCal is a calendar and scheduling application. This page describes ScholarCal's SMS reminder program, including how you consent to receive messages, what those messages contain, and how to stop them at any time.

Who sends the messages

Messages are sent by ScholarCal to the mobile number a registered ScholarCal user verifies on their own account. ScholarCal does not send messages to numbers that have not completed the verification described below, and does not send marketing or promotional messages.

How to opt in

SMS reminders are off by default. Opting in requires a ScholarCal account and takes place inside the product, in four steps:

  1. Sign in to ScholarCal at scholarcal.com and open Settings → Notifications.
  2. In the SMS reminders section, enter your mobile phone number.
  3. Check the consent box. Its wording is reproduced exactly below. The “Send code” button stays disabled until the box is checked, so no message can be requested without consent.
  4. ScholarCal sends a six-digit verification code by SMS to that number. Enter the code to confirm the number belongs to you and finish opting in. The code expires after 10 minutes.

What the opt-in screen looks like

The real form is in Settings → Notifications and requires a signed-in account, so the illustration below reproduces it for review purposes. It shows the screen in its initial state: the consent box unchecked, and “Send code” disabled until it is checked.

The checkbox is unchecked by default and “Send code” cannot be pressed until it is checked, so no message is ever requested without consent. The live form is at Settings → Notifications after signing in.

Message frequency

Message frequency varies. Messages are triggered by your own calendar: you receive a reminder only when an event, assignment, or deadline you created or subscribed to is approaching, according to the reminder times you set. If you have nothing scheduled, you receive nothing.

Cost

ScholarCal does not charge for SMS reminders. Message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.

How to opt out

Reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. You will receive one confirmation message and no further messages after that. You may also remove or disable your number at any time in Settings → Notifications.

Reply START to resubscribe after opting out.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Your mobile number and your SMS consent are used only to deliver the reminders described on this page. ScholarCal does not sell, rent, or share mobile opt-in information or consent with third parties, and does not share it with anyone for marketing or promotional purposes.
